In the abbreviated 2021 season, the Red Raiders took the top seed in Class A with an 8-5 record and with only seven teams in the Class A bracket they had a bye in the first round. They beat a greatly improved Hilton, 11-6 in the semifinals, and then beat Pittsford in overtime for their tenth championship and second in a row.

# 3141  Fairport Wins in Overtime

Fairport defeated Pittsford in overtime 6-5 tonight to secure their 10th Sectional Title and second consecutive title (2019 win over Hilton 9-4). This is the fourth straight tournament that have seen the Red Raiders in the finals. With tonight's win, the Red Raiders moved into third for the most titles by any program in Section Five.

# 3136  Semi Finals: Thomas Over Victor - Pittsford Over McQuaid

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: Just like yesterday, two top seeds won and two third seeds beat second seeds. Pittsford was down 9-3 before scoring six goals in the final quarter and forcing two overtime periods to defeating McQuaid 11-10. Thomas scored early and kept the Blue Devils behind on their way to a 10-7 win in Class B. Fairport came back from a 5-3 half, scoring seven goals in the third quarter to punch their championship ticket with an 11-6 win over Hilton. Canandaigua scored six unanswered goals in the first half and finished 8-3 over Penfield.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: More teams finished their regular season today and although most games were mismatches once again, the Geneva at Wayne game provided some excitement as the Panther won 10-7. NOTE: Long time Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association member, Bob Mentz was met after his assigned game at Wayne tonight by a large group of friends and fellow officials as he was told that he will be inducted into the USA Lacrosse Rochester Chapter Hall of Fame this fall.

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: Four more teams joined Batavia and BK as they finished the regular season today. Churchville-Chili, Greece, Pittsford, and Penfield finished and will wait for tournament seeding on Sunday. Irondequoit won a close one with Churchville-Chili. Victor won a close one with Pittsford and Brockport won a close one with East United-Eastridge.

Sunday: DAY IN REVIEW: Fairport travelled west to Buffalo to play St. Joseph at noon today and lost in spite of a fourth quarter surge. St. Joe came out first with two unanswered first quarter goals. They scored four more before the half but allowed Fairport to scored three. Returning at 6-3 after the half the Marauders scored three more while the Red Raiders scored two to make the score 9-5. Fairport roared back with four goals, but The Marauders scored one and that was the difference. Rob Crowley led the scoring for Fairport with 4g. [BOX SCORE]

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: In another exciting game, Victor beat Thomas with three goals in the last quarter to remain undefeated with the 9-6 victory at home. There were fifty-three games played last week and although there were some exciting ones there continued to be a large number of mismatches. With travel concerns this season there are only nine out of section games scheduled and seven have been played. Section Five has won six.

Monday: DAY IN REVIEW: A nine goal second quarter led to a 12-2 half as Spencerport (7-0) posted an 18-4 win for the Rangers over Aquinas this afternoon. Connor Mesh had 3g-3a and won 13/14 (94%) faceoffs and Justin Schnauber added 2g-3a for Spencerport.

# 3089  Fairport scores last three in win over Pittsford

Fairport had a strong showing in three of the four quarters in their 10-7 win over Pittsford.  The Panthers kept the game close and led at two different points before Fairport scored the final three goals of the game to secure the win.  Attackman Jackson Monte had a strong game for the Red Raiders with 2g-2a as well as opening up a few other goals for the Fairport offense.

# 3068  For Fairport Teamwork is Priority

In their last time out, the Red Raiders had a 17-3 record and went all the way to the NYS finals behind the efforts of Klay Stuver, Colin Peers and Gavin Ingalls among others on the offensive end and Tim Defendis in the goal. Fairport always seems to have a core of standout players, but this year it harder to see the core having lost opportunities to shine in 2020. Still, the majority of coaches in the section feel strongly that Fairport will be in the championship game again this year.

# 2952  Massapequa Wins Second State Title

Massapequa won their second State Title in school history with a 10-6 win over Fairport.  The Chiefs won their first title in 2014 with a 16-2 win over Fayetteville-Manlius.  The Chiefs scored the opening two goals and led throughout the contest.  They won the first three quarters (and tied 2-2 in the fourth).

The All Tournament Teams for 2018 were announced at each final on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Most Valuable Player in Class A was Colin Peers (Fairport), in Class C, Sam Miller (Geneva), in Class D, Connor Fingar (Penn Yan) and in Class B, Jack LaRue (Victor). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments.

# 2924  Geneva and Fairport Champs

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: Geneva won their second back to back Class C Championship tonight against Wayne 10-1. The Panthers defeated the Eagles 13-2 last year. The Panthers were slowly plodding throughout the contest and added a few goals in each quarter. Midfielder Sam Miller was named the Class C All Tournament MVP after a 3g-3a day (60% of all goals). Additionally, goalie Brandon Wayne finished with an exceptional day, recording 13 saves. Of those, 10 came in the first half while holding the Eagles scoreless during that period. Both senior were instrumental in the success of the Panthers this season. STORY CONTINUES

# 2923  Fairport Wins First Title Since 2014

After losses in the Championship games to Penfield (9-8) last season and Pittsford (9-5) two years ago, the Red Raiders were bent on getting their first Section Five Title since 2014.  Fairport scored five goals in the second half while holding the Hilton offense scoreless to defeat the Cadets 9-4.  Key players in the success were face-off midfielder Jake Knapp and sophomore midfielder Rob Crowley.  Crowley finished with 4g on the night and Knapp finished at 8/13 at the face-off.  Both were named to the All Tournament Team for Fairport.  Knapp’s success was even more impressive based on Hilton face-off midfielder Shawn Doran’s season.  Doran finished the season at 82% with 306 wins.  Before tonight, he had never had less than 50% day at the faceoff.  Doran, for his performance throughout the Tournament was also named to the All Tournament Team.

# 2878  Fairport Gives JD First Loss of the Season

Fairport defeated JD for the second straight season with a 10-9 win in the first overtime period.  Colin Peers scored his third goal of the night to give the Red Raiders the victory.  Over the past eleven years, JD and Fairport have faced off once a year.  The Rams were on a five year streak before the Red Raiders defeated them last year 14-12.  Overall, JD still leads the series 7-4.  This season, the Rams came into the game undefeated at 10-0.  They had two close one goal wins over West Genesee (8-7) and ESM (11-10).  With three minutes remaining in regulation, JD led by three 9-6 and were looking strong to keep up their undefeated season.  Fairport scored three goals in the final 2:37 to send the game into overtime.  Peers scored both the game tying goal as well as the overtime goal.
